Famous Last Words by Gillian McAllister

You can always rely on Daniel Hurst to write entertaining, galloping novels that will have you tearing through the pages. His books are like palate cleansers for me; super easy to read and fun in a twisted kind of way. The Husband is no different. It starts off with Jenny and her daughter watching a crime documentary and realising the death of a young girl 25 years earlier took place in the small Scottish town where her husband Lachlan was raised. Narrated from both Jenny and Lachlan’s perspectives, we quickly realise that Lachlan is far from the husband that Jenny assumes he is. When the family returns to Scotland for a few days, suspicions and fear soon give way to terror. This is a short, punchy psychological thriller, perfect for when you want a quick read.
