Welcome to my new newsletter! I’m bringing in a few changes, including committing to sending this out once a week. Yikes! Well, at least I’ll give it a go…

Do you participate in yearly reading challenges? So this is a bit controversial…but I’m not a great believer in reading challenges. I know they’re all over Goodreads and social media, and it can be fun to look back at pictures of the books you’ve read the previous year, but for me they add an unnecessary pressure to what should be a relaxing hobby. Most years, I read between 50 to 70 books and 90% of those are thrillers. But if I only read 10 books this year, that’s fine too. Let me know what you think about reading challenges!

Our farmhouse was remote (a mile from the nearest neighbour). We owned a barn which I converted into a holiday cottage and called it Best View in Britain Barn. The property had extraordinary 180-degree views over vast swathes of countryside. Luckily for us, we had lovely guests who respected the property and didn’t cause us any problems. But it got me thinking – what if we had had nightmare guests?
